Terms of Service
By requesting a quote, the client is accepting Pied Crow Editing's terms of service.
General
Pied Crow Editing reserves the right to respectfully refuse any client/project.
Pied Crow Editing promises to render all services without outside human or AI assistance (beyond basic spelling and grammar checks embedded in most word processors).
Pied Crow Editing's services will be completed in the communicated time frame. If a necessary extension is not possible and the work cannot be completed, the client will be refunded.
All client communication and documents are confidential.
Clients must ensure they have multiple copies of their unedited and edited documents.
Clients are entitled to two formal edits and one free revision per document. Further editing and editing of new material will require further payment.
Pied Crow Editing works primarily in UK/SA English, but is otherwise comfortable with most English dialects. I am happy to work with anyone who wishes to publish in English.
Pied Crow Editing primarily follows the University of Oxford Style Guide. The client may provide their own style guide or request a style guide be created for their document.
Accessibility
Accommodations include (but are not limited to): making documents more accessible, providing verbal feedback, transcribing and editing audio copy/manuscripts, and improving communication to match the client's needs.
Clients are not required to name or explain their disability in order to receive accommodations; however, clients are welcome to provide additional information should they wish to.
Limitations of Service
Pied Crow Editing is not responsible for fact-checking content. It is the client's responsibility to ensure the content is accurate.
Pied Crow Editing is not responsible for client plagiarism. The client must ensure their content is original and use full citations when quoting another person's intellectual property. If it becomes apparent the client has plagiarised extensively, service will be rescinded unless the client provides accurate citations.
Pied Crow Editing will edit existing citations to ensure they comply with the chosen citation style. The client must ensure the citation is accurate or provide the cited material to be cross-checked.
Pied Crow Editing does NOT offer: multilingual editing/writing, fact-checking/research, writing/editing of legal copy, book formatting, marketing or author management.
Payment
Quotes are an estimate and may not match the final invoice. If it becomes apparent that the invoice will differ drastically from the quote, work will be paused while the client is notified. The client may choose to pay for the work that has been completed thus far and end the contract.
The client is required to pay a deposit (20–25%) based on their quote to secure my hours. They will then be invoiced for the remaining amount and any additional fees when the work is complete.
Completed work is not refundable.
The client may request to negotiate a fixed payment plan. This is not guaranteed.
International clients may be charged for foreign transaction and handling fees.
VAT does not apply.
Generative AI Statement
Pied Crow Editing will not accept any clients who have utilised generative AI to draft any portion of their copy (including graphics).
If Pied Crow Editing suspects or confirms that generative AI has been utilised, service will be rescinded and the client will not be refunded.
