Editing Services
Glossary
Editing: Correcting language and formatting errors; highlighting inconsistencies and contradictions; identifying flow issues.
Language: Grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice, sentence structure and the overall organisation of ideas.
Copy: Any text that is printed; any text that advertises a product.
Manuscript: An unpublished book or document.
What do I edit?
Non-fiction: Narrative and educational.
Fiction: Adult and children's fiction, fantasy, queer and LGBTQIA+, romance, erotica, graphic novels, etc.
Short- and long-form copy: Advertising, instructional materials, general or specialised information materials, web content, newsletters, etc.
I specialise in fiction and have no qualms editing explicitly sexual, violent or disturbing content.
What editing services do I offer?
Copy edit: For all texts; divided into light (minor to moderate errors) and heavy (substantial errors). A complete language edit that focuses on grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and formatting. Urgent structural and consistency errors will be pointed out, but not corrected.
Macro edit: For fiction and non-fiction. This covers developmental editing and manuscript evaluation; the structure and content is evaluated without addressing language errors.
Micro edit: For all texts. This covers content and line editing; the content is evaluated to address clarity, flow, tone, audience and style.
Complete edit: For fiction and non-fiction. A full macro edit followed by a micro edit, then copy editing.
Proofreading: For all texts. The final stage of editing; the edited text is proofread to catch any remaining errors or errors introduced to the text during formatting.
Editing trial: Clients are welcome to request a free editing trial for their novella/novel. I will edit one chapter to the client's specifications.
What is the editing process?
The client is required to pay a deposit (20–25%) based on their quote to secure my hours.
Once I have received the deposit, the client will send me the document as a MS Word document or Google Doc. I will complete the edit using Track Changes/editing mode and provide an editor's letter with any urgent suggestions and comments.
The client will then review the editor's letter and edited document, accept/reject my edits and make suggested changes based on my comments, and return the document to me for a final edit.
The remaining payment is due immediately after the client has received the final edit and invoice. The edit and transaction are thus complete.
